The Future of TV: What’s on the Internet tonight honey?
The television is the most used and loved device in the home. What happens when you bring the power and personalization of the Internet to this most beloved device? How do we not mess it up? How do we not turn the TV into a laptop or iPhone? How do we make the TV smarter?
In 2009 the Intel Corporation and Yahoo unveiled The Widget Channel, a framework that brings the best of the Internet to the TV. Brian David Johnson, the consumer experience architect for the Widget Channel, will share the five year history of the Widget Channel’s creation; from the early ethnographic research in living rooms across the globe to the minute changes and modification driven by a consumer centered design process. This new TV experience is just rolling out to consumers but early reviews have been overwhelming positive. The Wall Street Journal said, “If you want a smarter TV, the Yahoo Widget Engine will do the trick.”
It leaves us with this one fascinating question: If the Internet has come to the TV: what can you do with this new and most loved platform?
